Retired couples should avoid being enticed as guarantees for family members
One of our senior financial counsellors had a call from a distressed elderly couple. They had a Supreme Court writ to remove them from their house within two days. Their original debt of $60,000 had grown to $160,000.
FCV is a free and confidential community-based financial counselling service in
the southern region, primarily to assist consumers experiencing consumer debt.
Funded by the Department of Justice, we aim to:
Provide a regional information advice, referral and advocacy service for individuals
and families experiencing financial and/or credit related problems.
Educate and inform members of the community about their rights and responsibilities
with an emphasis on empowering people who are adversely affected by inequalities within
our social and economic system.
Work cooperatively with our consumers and other relevant groups on the identification
of broader social, economic, and policy issues and to develop strategies to address these.
